Biography of Trevor Rooney and The York Ghost Walk
It all started when the famous writer John Mitchell (author of the well-known book “Ghosts of an Ancient City"
enlisted Trevor Rooney, founder of the Ghost Walk of York, to take photographs of all the haunted and historic
buildings of York. Together he and Trevor would tell ghost stories by candlelight to captive audiences at haunted pubs.
The popularity of these events was immediate. Neither of the hosts were fully prepared for the crowds and crowds
of people who gathered to hear the old ghost stories of York.
From this, the inspiration came to take people out to the streets, to the actual locations mentioned in the stories.
This was a crucial moment in the founding of the World Famous Ghost Walk of York.
Due to the success of the original, York is now home to many competing ghost walks.
The difference is that this walk is unscripted, dramatic, spooky, hilarious, moving,
and sinister.
Established in 1980, over the years this walk has evolved from something quite simple into an extravagant
display of storytelling and entertainment, but is very serious about the ghosts that linger
in and around the various buildings and locations that we visit nightly.
Trevor Rooney’s world famous ghost walk stands out from all the competition due to its unique combination
of chilling stories and spontaneous entertainment. All the guides on this tour have a genuine passion for the
history of our ancient city and the many souls that wander within its walls.
Along with the ghost walk itself, you can experience ghostly dinners by candlelight, ghost weekends at
haunted hotels, and a sister ghost walk in the historic city of Glasgow.
Trevor Rooney’s world famous ghost walk of York truly is an unforgettable experience.
My Quote:
“To meet new people and tell the stories is a great thing,
This has been my life work, there is nothing else I love more.
And when I have walked my final walk, I will join the countless ghosts haunting the streets I have walked all my life”
